This Privacy Policy explains how LingoHero ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website, apps, and services (the "Service"). We collect only what we need to deliver speaking practice, personalization, and analytics. We do not sell your personal data.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

Email address, name (optional), profile picture, authentication provider (Google, Apple), and account preferences.

Learning & Practice Data

Prompts you attempt, scores, feedback, streaks, progress history, drill configurations, exam preferences, and insights about your strengths and weaknesses.

Audio Recordings

Voice recordings you create for practice, associated transcripts, and acoustic features extracted to compute pronunciation, fluency, and content scores.

Usage & Device Data

IP address, device type and model, operating system, app version, language preferences, session duration, feature usage, and crash/error diagnostics.

Payment Information

If you purchase a subscription, payment processing is handled by Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We receive limited transaction information (subscription status, expiration date) but do not store your full payment card details.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Provide the Service: Process your audio, generate scores and feedback, maintain your progress and streaks.
• Personalization: Deliver focused drills based on your weaknesses, adapt difficulty levels, recommend relevant practice.
• Shareable Links: Enable you to generate links to share specific responses with coaches, tutors, or peers.
• Communication: Send important service updates, subscription notifications, and optional promotional emails (you can opt out).
• Analytics & Improvement: Understand how the Service is used, identify bugs, improve features and AI models.
• Security & Compliance: Prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our Terms of Service, comply with legal obligations.

3. Audio Processing & Retention

We process your audio recordings to generate transcripts, pronunciation scores, fluency metrics, and content analysis. Where technically feasible, we extract non-reversible acoustic features for scoring purposes and minimize retention of raw audio files.

Retention: Audio recordings are typically retained for 30-90 days to allow you to review your practice history. After this period, we may delete the audio while retaining scores and transcripts. You can delete recordings at any time from the app. Access to audio is restricted to authorized personnel and automated systems for scoring purposes only.

4. Shareable Links

When you create a shareable link, anyone with the link can view the associated content (audio, transcript, scores). Shared items remain accessible until you delete them or disable sharing. You control what you share and with whom. We are not responsible for how recipients use shared content.

5. Data Sharing & Third-Party Services

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We may share information with third-party service providers who help us operate the Service:

• Cloud Infrastructure: Supabase (database, authentication, storage), Cloudflare (CDN, storage)
• AI Processing: OpenAI, Google Cloud (speech-to-text, AI scoring)
• Analytics: PostHog (product analytics, feature usage)
• Payment Processing: Apple App Store, Google Play Store, RevenueCat (subscription management)
• Error Monitoring: Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports, diagnostics)

These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for providing services to us. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights or safety.

6. Your Privacy Rights

For All Users

• Access: Request a copy of your personal data
• Correction: Update your account details and preferences in the app
• Deletion: Delete recordings individually or request full account deletion from in-app settings
• Opt-out: Disable non-essential analytics or promotional emails

California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including:

• Right to know what personal information we collect and how it's used
• Right to delete your personal information (subject to legal exceptions)
• Right to opt out of sale of personal information (we do not sell your data)

European Residents (GDPR)

However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as necessary to provide the Service and fulfill the purposes described in this policy:

• Account data: Until you delete your account, then 30 days
• Audio recordings: 30-90 days (or until you delete them)
• Scores & transcripts: Until account deletion
• Analytics data: Typically 12-24 months
• Legal compliance: Longer if required by law

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately, and we will delete it.

10. International Data Transfers

Your information may be processed and stored in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. These countries may have different data protection laws than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses where required by law.

Our website and apps may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for authentication, preferences, and analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect Service functionality.
